College!

August 28th, 2009 (08:27 am)

So I've had two days of classes and I've had all three of my normal lectures.*

Math 1B: I hate the teacher. He's annoying and won't answer questions--and I've read that his tests are extremely hard. So far the homework was very easy because I already know the material...I just hope I'll keep remembering. This is just Calc BC over again--I think I'm an idiot for not taking Math 54 (linear algebra--the final math class I need to be a comp sci major) instead this semester...I'm only taking this because I thought it would be better to REALLY understand stuff...but now I don't think so. But Math 54 is full now!

Ethnic Studies 41AC: Okay, I'm going to admit, I thought this would be a really easy class just to fulfill some requirements. It is not. I have to write a twenty page research paper! Aaach. But it has really good reviews, so maybe it gets better?? But right now I really want to drop it. =( (But not much has open spaces anymore!)

Computer Science 61A: So far, I'm in love with this class. I thought it would be too hard for me. It is hard, BUT it is fun. I think I'm choosing the right major here. Lecture is about 500 people, in the biggest room on campus, but lab and discussion are about thirty (and our GSI--graduate student instructor, who leads labs and discussions--seems cool) so it's okay. Also Scheme (the language we're using) is not as bad a language as I thought it would be. I am also enamored with this class because we use Suns, instead of Windows PCs. Thank you for being intelligent, computer people.

So not a whole lot has happened outside of classes. Dining commons have terrible food, and they're very bad at labeling things as vegetarian or not (I saw plain old broccoli marked as non-vegetarian). No other real restaurants on campus take meal points.

Haven't actually met a ton of people. But I haven't really tried. We had Calapalooza, a fair for clubs to recruit freshmen, yesterday. Signed up for the atheist club and the computer science club. Maybe I'll find some nerdy friends in the CS club. Oh, and apparently they have their own lounge with a refrigerator and everything in the CS building. Which is awesome. AND they're putting on an ice cream social with liquid nitrogen! Should be fun.

Dorm is all right. Tiny, but roommates are nice (that's good). Not a lot going on here. Dislike the 12GB bandwidth limit because it makes me afraid to watch any videos (I need House!). Farthest of the main three units to campus, but not too bad.

Okay, I think that's pretty much it! How are you guys doing? You've all started classes? What are you taking?

*I'm also taking a DeCal on the philosophy of Harry Potter and a seminar (small freshmen-only class) on Ancient Egypt, but those are both Monday and not really normal classes.

Hi I haven't posted an entry in three months so I thought that maybe I should do that. =D

I'm not going to tell you about my life.

I don't actually have anything to say.

HARRYPOTTERINSIXDAYSUGGGGH.

So uh yeah it's summer. I'm majoring in comp sci now.

I'm taking comp sci, second semester calculus, ethnic studies, and an Egyptology seminar this semester. What are you guys taking?

I am going on a cruise to Mexico next Friday for three days.

That's pretty much all I have to say!

This is actually sort of fun.

So I remembered today that you can...add friends I guess? on the Wii with the number things...I'm not sure if it actually does anything, but just in case anyone wants to add me, my number is:

3566 1858 8389 3689

Or you can give me yours whatever.

Does it actually help in any way to have other people's numbers...?

Thank you Jennifer!

This doesn't really look a lot like my handwriting, I didn't realize I was supposed to put the letters in specific places when I did it, but...it's good enough for now. I'll do a better one later.

It's cool though!

Album Cover Meme

March 1st, 2009 (04:58 pm)

CREATE YOUR BAND NAME & ALBUM COVER

To Do This:

1 - Go to Wikipedia. Hit "random" or click http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:Random.
The first random Wikipedia article you get is the name of your band.

2 - Go to Quotations Page and select "random quotations" or click http://www.quotationspage.com/random.php3.
The last four or five words of the very last quote on the page is the title of your first album.

3 - Go to Flickr and click on “explore the last seven days” or click http://www.flickr.com/explore/interesting/7days.
The third picture, no matter what it is, will be your album cover.

4 - Use Photoshop or similar to put it all together.

Whoah.

Sorry for so many recent posts, but this is...amazing.

Our score at regionals was about 46,900.

I was looking at nationals scores from last year. Out of 41 states, if we got the same score as at regionals [which isn't exactly fair--it's a different test], we would have ranked #7...behind Moorpark [CA], Wisconsin, Texas, Arizona, Illinois, and Tennessee.

Much more incredibly...the lowest score was South Dakota with 11,474 points. Wow. Only four schools were below 30,000 points, though. But still...

However, that school's high scorer got 5983. Which is about half their points. Which means the other five scorers totaled only about 6,000 points...

Sorry. AcaDec edbejkfn.

Ostriches vs. Emus

February 14th, 2009 (08:01 am)
current song: The Cure - Stop Dead

So, the other day, I was asking about the difference between ostriches and emus, because I realized I really didn't know. I have decided to inform you all!

Ostriches, emus, and an extra gift of Rheas )

By the way...I know this is totally irrelevant, but it seemed like something fun to talk about. =)

Second place second place second place!!

I should've posted this yesterday, didn't think about it.

2nd: NORTH HOLLYWOOD!!
3rd: Pacific Palisades?
4th: Marshall

We also took second place in Super Quiz for team. We got team plaques for five out of ten [we placed second or third--but it's not as big a deal as Super Quiz]. I personally only medalled in economics, I got a bronze. I got honorable mentions in...Super Quiz and Literature, I think? [How? Lit was my lowest score...]

So that means...

SACRAMENTO! March 13th to 16th. We will be gone! =)

Oh, and I scored! I got something near 7800, and Hahnsol got 7200 or something? I'll find out today. But WHOO!
