College!
So I've had two days of classes and I've had all three of my normal lectures.*
Math 1B: I hate the teacher. He's annoying and won't answer questions--and I've read that his tests are extremely hard. So far the homework was very easy because I already know the material...I just hope I'll keep remembering. This is just Calc BC over again--I think I'm an idiot for not taking Math 54 (linear algebra--the final math class I need to be a comp sci major) instead this semester...I'm only taking this because I thought it would be better to REALLY understand stuff...but now I don't think so. But Math 54 is full now!
Ethnic Studies 41AC: Okay, I'm going to admit, I thought this would be a really easy class just to fulfill some requirements. It is not. I have to write a twenty page research paper! Aaach. But it has really good reviews, so maybe it gets better?? But right now I really want to drop it. =( (But not much has open spaces anymore!)
Computer Science 61A: So far, I'm in love with this class. I thought it would be too hard for me. It is hard, BUT it is fun. I think I'm choosing the right major here. Lecture is about 500 people, in the biggest room on campus, but lab and discussion are about thirty (and our GSI--graduate student instructor, who leads labs and discussions--seems cool) so it's okay. Also Scheme (the language we're using) is not as bad a language as I thought it would be. I am also enamored with this class because we use Suns, instead of Windows PCs. Thank you for being intelligent, computer people.
So not a whole lot has happened outside of classes. Dining commons have terrible food, and they're very bad at labeling things as vegetarian or not (I saw plain old broccoli marked as non-vegetarian). No other real restaurants on campus take meal points.
Haven't actually met a ton of people. But I haven't really tried. We had Calapalooza, a fair for clubs to recruit freshmen, yesterday. Signed up for the atheist club and the computer science club. Maybe I'll find some nerdy friends in the CS club. Oh, and apparently they have their own lounge with a refrigerator and everything in the CS building. Which is awesome. AND they're putting on an ice cream social with liquid nitrogen! Should be fun.
Dorm is all right. Tiny, but roommates are nice (that's good). Not a lot going on here. Dislike the 12GB bandwidth limit because it makes me afraid to watch any videos (I need House!). Farthest of the main three units to campus, but not too bad.
Okay, I think that's pretty much it! How are you guys doing? You've all started classes? What are you taking?
*I'm also taking a DeCal on the philosophy of Harry Potter and a seminar (small freshmen-only class) on Ancient Egypt, but those are both Monday and not really normal classes.
